  • [es-pree de less-ka/-iay] (idiom) A witty remark that occurs to you too late, literally on the way down the stairs. The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations defines esprit de l'escalier as, "An untranslatable phrase, the meaning of which is that one only thinks on one's way downstairs of the smart retort one might have made in the drawing room."

Cute hair, Claire! I hope the best for you in 2009 and am anxious to see where you'll end up (geographically). You know I live vacariously!

Happy New Year! Cheers!

I love the flippiness!!

And... you'll be back here in Chicago for good if I have anything to do about it! :)

Happy New Year!!

Claire, I feel so special being one of the people you stayed with. It was so much fun and I want you to know how much I needed that diversion. I loved your visit!!

Man, soon comes the day when we gather up all of the cool people and take over a small town. You can be the town planner. See? There's a job just waiting for you.

This also means that I will get to see you regularly, which is as it should be. It was so so nice having you in town. I am looking forward to Burns Night. I will work on some fiddle tunes and give my liver a pep talk.

Your hair looks lovely, dear!! So nice to run into you at the salon. My pedicured toes are happy as well. :) And glad we got one dinner in during your visit. More chatting to follow soon...
Happy New Year!! Here's too 2009 full of all the good stuff. :)
